HISTORY of OUR COMPANY

Hello! My name is Pavel Ryzhov.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always seen myself in tourism even

in those times when there was no profession like this.

Our country at that time was absolutely different.

I even got the diploma of Komsomol instructor in my time! And one day,

I decided that I didn’t want to do my favorite work from time to time.

I wanted to do it on an ongoing basis.

So, I united my colleagues and opened the company called

“Around the Baikal”. I want to say the following:

if you decide to go rafting, you should be ready that this activity, perhaps,

will become a passion of your whole life!

Rafting is a breathtaking activity. Moreover, it’s more enjoyable with a good company. We don’t offer extreme rafting tours, which needs a serious preparation to ensure the tourists’ safety. We prefer to organize high-quality rest, which is full of positive emotions. Therefore, you won’t find rafting tours of 5th and more degrees of complexity on our site. The highest degree is 4th, and this is enough for ordinary tourists, in my opinion.

We want to show you the nature of the Baikal region and demonstrate its unforgettable beauty and peace. And, undoubtedly, we want to show our majestic rivers.

We can help you to discover the reserved area of Anay river, which is unknown even for local residents. More than that, we offer you to take a water tour by catamaran that goes along the coast of the whole Baikal! Or you can go around the Olhon Island by ten-seater raft and go fishing from its board on the Kitoy river with us! Did you ever see the Kitoy in September before a storm? What a pity if you don’t! But I did, and it was amazing!

So, I share all this memories and feelings with our guests with a big pleasure! I should highlight that any tourist is a welcome guest for me! Come and we make it worth!

Our Equipment

All our equipment, which we use while rafting tours, is certified and safe. We use rafts and catamarans of famous companies that produce equipment for extreme water tours: “Triton” in Saint Petersburg and “Volniy Veter” in Moscow.

3 Reasons to Go Rafting with Us

- Rivers of the Baikal region are incredibly beautiful and located in the reserved area so far;

- You will have a real adventure;

- You will have an enjoyable time and will make good use of it.

OUR TOURS

The water routs in the Baikal region is interesting and exciting. You can travel by different vessels watching spectacular views that slowly float in front of you. Or you can go rafting down fast mountain rivers to get the adrenalin going. We offer you to take one of the tours that we prepare specially for our guests. However, you can make your own tour and combine it with different excursions and with rest in tourist camps of the Baikal region or Buryatia!

“Around the Baikal Tour” (Motor Catamaran)

The rout of this tour goes through Pribaikalsky National Park, “Baikal-Lena” Nature Reserve, wildlife sanctuary “Frolikha”, Bargusin Nature Reserve, Zabaikalsky National Park, and other specially protected and outback territories. This tour for those who want to see real Lake Baikal, but not trivial brand images.

“Around the Olkhon Island Tour”

(Kayak/Canoe or Catamaran)

One of the most attractive places on Lake Baikal is the Olkhon Island. We won’t exaggerate if we say that travelling to this place in every season gives you a great number of good emotions and memories. Among numerous islands of the Baikal region this one is the most beautiful and mysterious. It differs from other islands because of its unique landscape, nature monuments, and culture.

Rafting Tour down the “Kitoy” River

(The 2nd Degree of Complexity)

The “Kitoy” river is formed from confluence of 2 rivers “Samarta” and “Ulzita”, which originate in “Nuhu-Daban” hill near the “Irkut” river head. Its length is 316 km and basin area is 9190 km². About 2009 small and big rivers, which overall length is 5332 km, fall into the “Kitoy”. Ice freezes on this river in the middle of October and thaws at the end of April or at the beginning of May. Rafting down the “Kitoy” is relatively calm with not many places of fast stream, but very picturesque.

Rafting Tour down the Middle Stream of the “Irkut” River

The “Irkut” river is one of traditional places of local residents’ and tourists’ rest. Rafting tours down the middle and the lower streams of “Irkut” give a good opportunity to spend weekends far from hectic big city going fishing and enjoying the beauty of Siberian forest. This water tour is very convenient for corporate rest, big companies, and family vacations. There are good approach roads to the place of start and finish of the rafting tour. This tour has the 2nd degree of complexity (from 6 possible); therefore, it’s not very complicated for beginners. Moreover, it gives a good chance for you to make first steps in water tourism.

Rafting Tour down the “Oka” River

The river “Oka Sayanskaya” is called “The Heart of the Eastern Sayan”. The name of this river derives from Buryat word “aha” that means “the older”. The “Oka” gets its name because it’s the biggest river, which flow down the “Eastern Sayan” into the river “Angara”. Local residents Soyots call this river “Ok-hem” that means “arrow-river”. The landscape of the “Oka” is quite picturesque. In this rafting tour you can travel by rafts or catamarans. This water tour is for people who want to feel the power of water, go to seldom visited places, and go fishing.

Rafting Tour down the River “Lena”

The familiar Russian name “Lena” has nothing in common with woman’s name. This name derives from Evenki word of Tunguska-Manchurian language group. It can be translated as “Big River”.

A small mountain torrent originates in mountain slopes, which embrace Lake Baikal on the west side like a giant necklace. As more as it moves away from its head, it becomes wider and transforms into powerful affluent river called “Lena”. The route of this rafting tour is organized in the upper reach of the “Lena”. The width of this river varies between 15 and 35 km. Its current speed is 7-10 km/h. Moreover, the “Lena” has many different rapids and even 2 small waterfalls. All difficulties during the rafting tour are overcome easily with our professional guides. More than that, unbelievable beauty and river wealth will beyond all your expectations. Almost the whole tour will be on the territory of the “Baikal-Lena” Nature Reserve.

Rafting Tour down the Reserved River “Bolshoy Anay”

The rafting tour down the river “Bolshoy Anay” goes through united nature reserved parks “Baikal National Park” and “Baikal-Lena” Nature Reserve. It’s the left “Lena’s” confluent, which is the most seldom visited part of the river. The rafting tour isn’t that difficult. The most frequent difficulty is broken trees, which we usually raft round or saw up. On coasts of the river you can see virgin dark coniferous forest that is full of animals and birds. These places are perfect for those who like watching nature and taking photos!

Travelling to the “Svyatoy Nos” Peninsular

The way to the place of our rafting tour’s start goes through the “Olhinskoe” plateau, the south part of the “Baikal”, and along mountain uplifts of “Hamar-Daban”. You will travel across the biggest river “Selenga” that flows into Lake Baikal. The rafting tour goes through the “Podlemorye” Nature Reserve and goes around the “Svyatoy Nos” peninsular. This peninsular divides 2 the biggest Baikal bays “Barguzinskiy” and “Chivirkuyskiy”. These bays are famous for their beaches, good places for fishing, and hot mineral springs of the bay “Zmeinaya”.

Travel along the Circum-Baikal Railway

This is an exciting tour along the old Circum-Baikal Railway that has no analogs in Russia. The year 2005 sees the centenary of this the most beautiful and mysterious part of the East Siberian Railway. The Circum-Baikal Railway was built in the beginning of XX century. It had been operated till the middle of 1950, when a power dam was built on the “Angara” river. From this moment one part of the old Transsiberian railway, which came from Irkutsk to the Baikal along the left coast of the “Angara”, was drowned under the water of the Irkutsk water-storage reservoir. We offer you to enjoy these magnificent places while travelling by a speed-boat and hiking with our experienced guides.
